Civil War Leaders

FUN-TO-READ CIVIL WAR PUBLICATION

CIVIL WAR LEADERS

Civil War Leaders.  Read about the lives of six famous Civil War leaders in an exciting, fun-to-read format!  Included in this publication are biographies of Union leaders Admiral David D. Porter, Major-General George G. Meade, Major-General Winfield Scott Hancock, Major-General John McAllister Schofield, and Brigadier-General Oliver Otis Howard, and Confederate leader General Pierre Gustave Toutant Beauregard.

These biographies, which are very well written and entertaining to read, have been reprinted from an 1872 work by L.P. Brockett and an 1883 work by Alfred Roman.  What makes these accounts particularly interesting is that they were originally written while the subjects were actually living, and shortly following the Civil War, giving them an interesting, original perspective.

This publication is softcover, 8.5" x 11", 71 pages, and spiral bound.  Reprinted 2006, Belcher Foundation.

An excellent gift idea for Civil War, military, or history buffs!

Sample Text:  "[A]t the battle of Williamsburg, just at the set of sun, and during a pouring rain, with the enemy massed in his front, and with recent and yawning chasms amid the ranks of his own men, [Hancock] rode to the centre of his lines, and quickly passing the words 'fix bayonets,' paused a moment, then, waving his hat, uttered the order to his officers, 'Gentlemen, charge.'  Following their brave leader who was riding straight upon the enemy at the top of his speed, the bayonet charge of that little band was the decisive stroke of that day's battle."
