INCLUDES A CHAPTER ON THE GREAT SEAL OF THE UNITED STATES AND GOVERNOR BELCHER'S COAT OF ARMS

Governor Jonathan Belcher.  Exciting new book from the Belcher Foundation about Governor Jonathan Belcher (1682-1757).  One of the most fascinating men of his time, Governor Jonathan Belcher was the royal colonial governor of Massachusetts Bay (which at that time included the present states of Massachusetts and Maine), New Hampshire, and New Jersey, and was a highly influential figure in the early history of America.  Governor Belcher held together the colonies during one of the most important times in early American history -- just before the American Revolution.  At the same time, he made many contributions to American society, not the least of which is Princeton University, now one of America's leading ivy league universities.  A very sincere Christian, and a descendant of American's Puritan founding fathers, Governor Belcher also made advancements in religious liberty and is a part of America's Christian heritage, providing an excellent role model for good leadership and governance.

Included in this book are a number of black-and-white and color illustrations including those of Governor Jonathan Belcher, his New Jersey mansion, Nassau Hall (originally proposed to be called "Belcher Hall"), Belchertown, Massachusetts (a town named after Governor Belcher), the Belcher coat of arms, and several of Governor Belcher's friends and associates including George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, Issac Watts, Aaron Burr, Sr., and Benjamin Franklin.

The table of contents of this book consists of the following:  Introduction; Governor of the Bay; Governor of New Jersey; Founder of Princeton University; Governor Belcher and the Great Awakening; The Legacy of Governor Jonathan Belcher; The Great Seal of the United States and Governor Belcher's Coat of Arms; Governor Belcher, the Georgia Colony, and Roanoke Island; Governor Belcher's Relatives in Europe; The Portraits of Governor Jonathan Belcher; Chronology of the Life of Governor Jonathan Belcher; Genealogy of Governor Jonathan Belcher; and The Meaning of the Belcher Name.

This book is softcover, 5.5" x 8.5", 109 pages, and printed on heavy weight paper.  Published 2006, Belcher Foundation.
